| Life During Wartime... I watched the Oscars for the first time in years over the weekend. I didn't make it throught the whole show coz it was pretty fucking boring aside from a few funny jokes. The highlight for me was when Michael Moore's brilliant movie "Bowling for Columbine" won for best documentary. Moore's acceptance speech drew both cheers and boo's from the crowd- the one time the oscar audience awoke from their comatose demeanor and "automatic clapping". He really stuck it to Dubya! I know most of you didn't watch the oscars so here is his acceptance speech:
My cousin Vinney is getting married next weekend! This year has gone so fucking fast so far. It should be awesome and I'm really looking forward to it. Most of my cousins are gonna be down in Windsor for the occasion too- should be good stuff. As with all Punjabi weddings there is gonna be an open bar- you know what that means! We're talking some new levels of intoxication that were previously thought unattainable! The only thing I don't agree with is that the women don't drink. And I'm not talking about the young girls- I'm talking about the mothers. I think if they were wasted too they would probably have a much better time instead of being embarassed of their drunk husbands. Unless you live under a rock the big news on everyone's mind nowadays is the war in Iraq. My whole take on it is pretty simple. I think that they (meaning the US) could have avoided this war. The problem could have been solved by a different means, instead of attacking with a full force, killing innocent civilians in the process. The US is dropping bombs that can demolish a whole city block. I know they are suppose to be "precision-guided" missles and each potential target is "scrutinized for its viability as a worth-while target while minimizing the loss of life"- but fucking these same people accidentely shot down a British Airplane. Wouldn't that suck? Imagine you're a British pilot- your job is to drop a huge fucking bomb on Baghdad... so you go drop the bomb- you encounter some enemy anti-aircraft fire.. but to your relief you make it out... okay now imagine you're flying back to your base/aircraft carrier and you see a missle flying towards your plane- and the last thing you think is- "Wow, that looks just like an American Patriot missle!". As Marwan would say- "Sorry about your luck there buddy". But I'm not putting any blame on the US about that accidental killing- that wouldn't be fair. (The US pilots accidentaly dropping bombs on Canadian soldiers in Afghanistan is another story)- its war, these things are expected to happen. But what about that US soldier that threw grenades at his own troops and yelled the words "You're under attack!". His superior was quoted as saying that the solider had a "attitude problem". Thank you captian obvious for the understatement of the fucking century! Anyways I can rant about the war for a long time- but it all comes down to that I hope that the least amount of people get hurt and injured. Pray for peace- unless you don't pray like Wing... in that case "speak directly into the necklace".... In my last update I gave the link for the Beastie Boys anti-war song "In a world gone mad". This week I will provide links to 2 other new anti-war songs. The first one is an acoustic guitar track by Green Day's Billy Armstrong called "Life During Wartime"- it can be downloaded (right-click "save as") here. If you don't feel like downloading it- you can also listen to it if you goto the main music page of my website here. The second song is by former Rage frontman Zack de la Rocha. Its called "March of Death" and was made with DJ Shadow. You can check it out by following the link below.
In a World Gone Mad... I always take these long breaks from updating my website, and then when I inevitably come back I always feel the need to explain why it took me so long. Well yeah- I've had one of my trademark changes of heart and decided fuck explanation! Explanation is so overrated anyways. As I'm sure you've noticed by now, I changed the layout of the main page to a new theme based on the movie "Memento". I didn't realize how many people haven't seen this movie until recently. So yeah- if you've seen the movie the main page makes alot more sense- but if you haven't seen the movie I guess you can just formulate your own interpretation. The movie is fucking awesome though- its one of the few movies that I'll actually recommend to people. If you haven't seen it I suggest you check it out- unless you have an extremly short attention span and get confused easily (like May) because its not really a passive viewing movie like "Dude Where's My Car", meaning you'll lose the story if you don't pay attention. I bet Rita will really like the new main page since she wasn't really a fan of the last one. The old one had a picture of me in front of Lake Huron.... and if I remember correctly Rita said- "What are you fucking Dawson? Is that your Creek?". The Beastie Boys just released a new anti-war song called "In A World Gone Mad". You can download it for free on their official website (click the banner below). I think its a pretty good song- and timely also considering it seems the USA is going to war any day now. If you like socially conscious music check out the song- and if you don't then fuck you and go back to listening to Nelly! The girl of the week (if you're going "huh?" look to your right dumbass) is Jennifer Garner. She's the star of the ABC show Alias (which I don't watch) and was most recently in Daredevil (which I wish I didn't watch). I first saw her in "Dude Where's My Car"- which was a movie loved by potsmokers everywhere (aka Bobbi). I'm on my March break- which is pretty cool- gives me alot of time to waste time- which is actually my favorite past time. My sleeping patterns are so fucked up though- its pretty amazing actually. Take last night for instance- I was on the phone talking to Bobbi til about 3am. I didn't feel like sleeping then (probably because I woke up 2pm the day before) so I ended up staying up watching the movie "The Guru" which I downloaded a few weeks ago. I was suppose to see it in theaters with Sinath, but Windsor being the gay city that it is had the movie out only for 1 week here to accomodate for the 6 screens Daredevil needed- so we missed it. The movie was alright- it had some pretty funny moments. I don't know how old Marisa Tomei is- I think I read somewhere that she is in her late 30's- but she's hot for an older chick! And I'm not one to like old chicks- unlike Marwan who likes the "mature" ladies. He loves those 32 year olds. I might be heading up to TO this weekend to go visit my cousins Sarah and Karen.... I haven't seen those guys for sooooo long- I feel deprieved! R.I.P. May's fish that she neglected... I mean didn't neglect- she'll miss fishy #1 (yeah she named it that- I know its pretty gay but don't bother her about it- she's really sensitive about the whole her killing her fish thing). "The Sheild" is the best show in television- if you haven't seen it- check it out. Also the movie "Bowling for Columbine" was awesome- a brilliant social documentary on the american fascination with guns- not to mention its funny and makes americans look stupid... win win win situation! |
