Dead Like Me (Showtime) This is a Showtime original series that aired from June to September this year. It tells the story of a teenage girl named Georgia who is leading an uneventful life after dropping out of school. On her lunch break from the temp agency she works at, she dies after a toilet seat from the Mir space station crushes her on its reentry from space. She doesn’t go to heaven, and she doesn’t go to hell. Instead reapers who tell her that her new job is to take souls greet her. Reapers walk among us, and their job is to take the souls of those whose “time is up” before the event actually happens, so that there isn’t any pain. She finds this job difficult since
she is still dealing with her own death and unresolved issues with her
family. When becoming a reaper you take upon a new appearance so that
others won’t recognize you. It’s really hard to explain
this show- you’re better off watching it and judging for yourself.
The dialog is hilarious and the supporting cast of characters is excellent.
There were 14 episodes and I believe they are replaying them on Showtime
as well as Canadian television. I watched all 14 episodes over the course
of a week courtesy of the Internet. If you’re a fan of comedies
then this show is a definite MUST SEE. Dead Like Me have been picked
up for a second season, which will begin June 2004. |
